Nos minutos finais, o jogo ganhou em emoção. Willian Machado, do Ceará, chegou a ser expulso após falta em Deivid Washington, que avançava livre para o gol. No entanto, após revisão do VAR, o árbitro Felipe Fernandes de Lima reverteu a decisão, retirando o cartão vermelho e sequer marcando a falta. A partida também marcou a estreia do meio-campista Zé Rafael com a camisa do Santos, que entrou em campo nos instantes finais.
